What are Septic Systems?

  • Septic systems are on-site wastewater disposal of biological sanitary waste. "Gray water", such as laundry waste, is part of the wastewater system.

How can I locate my septic tank?

  • Tanks are often buried close to a building because of the convenience of excavation during original construction. The top of the tank is often about one foot below the surface. However it can be several feet deeper. Call your local Health Department, they can provide you with plot of your septic tank at no charge.

How often to pump a septic tank?

Regular pumping of a septic tank will extend the life of your wastewater system and protect your drain field.

  • It is recommended to pump your septic tank every 1 to 3 years.
  • It is also a good idea to have the septic tank pumped just before a large gathering of people.
